Rodeo Rhapsody

The photo that changed it all.

When I took this photo I was homeless living in my car, running on fumes, and not quite sure what I was doing with my life besides chasing this foolish dream of photographing cowboys. This was my first rodeo. I grabbed my camera and tried to drown out the doubts in my head with the sound of my shutter. Tschk tschk tschk. The old 5D Mk4 has this beautiful chunky shutter sound.

When this frame popped up on the back of the camera I felt tears well up before I even knew why. Something in me just knew — this one was different.

When I shared it, the internet’s response to this photograph was overwhelming. I remember people even coming up to me in person to tell me how much they loved it. I was beside myself. 

Stepping out of the car I was living in, into that dusty rodeo parking lot, I had no idea my life was about to change forever.
